On Monday, Oct. 17, a group from the Connecticut State Colleges & Universities System Office, Southern Connecticut State University and Connecticut State Community College spent a morning of service partnering with Connecticut FoodShare in Bloomfield. The group sorted and repackaged 13,570 pounds of apples to be shipped out to various locations in need statewide.
CSCU President Terrence Cheng thanked Connecticut FoodShare for allowing the CSCU group to volunteer and give back in the fight against hunger and food insecurity. “Thank you to Connecticut Foodshare for allowing more than 50 people to help out,” he said. “Your mission to serve people across Connecticut is near and dear to our hearts. Thanks to everyone who put in the time to work together for a great cause and having a positive impact on our communities.”
Connecticut Foodshare supports individuals and families by addressing root causes, creating long-term solutions, and distributing nutritious food through local partner programs to alleviate hunger. According to Connecticut Foodshare Volunteer Coordinator Edna Bailey, last year, more than 4,000 volunteers donated time to equal an additional 23 full-time staff members. “We are so grateful that you volunteered at Connecticut Foodshare and joined the thousands of volunteers who so generously give their time to help their neighbors,” she said.
