Board of Regents Applauds Executive Order to Improve Higher Education for Veterans
Governor’s Directive Will Help Veterans Receive Credit for Military Training and Education
Board of Regents President Gregory W. Gray released a statement applauding Executive Order No. 36, a directive that will guide the evaluation of military training and education for academic credit. The Executive Order, signed today by Governor Dannel Malloy, will ensure that military education and training will be measured and used to help veterans earn degrees and certifications.
“Veterans are an integral part of Connecticut’s state colleges and universities and bring with them unique skill sets and unrivaled leadership training that greatly benefits our campus communities,” said President Gray. “This Executive Order highlights Governor Malloy’s commitment to ensuring our veterans are prepared for the civilian job market, and will assist us in helping more veterans achieve their academic and career goals. This is an important step in reintegrating veterans into higher education and the workforce.”
Connecticut State Colleges & Universities (CONNSCU) have a history of providing academic access to our states’ veterans through the establishment of welcome centers and counseling support and other services.
Using the American Council on Education Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services — which includes all evaluated courses and occupations from 1954 to the present — the Board of Regents and UConn will collaborate to establish a standardized process for ensuring veterans can apply their military education towards college credit.
