Presidential Search Committee Announces Advisory Search Committee Members, Tentative Timeline

The Regents’ Search Committee (RSC) announced the members of the Systemwide Advisory Committee (SAC), who will provide input and suggestions regarding the selection of a new president.

The Board of Regents for Higher Education’s Regents’ Search Committee (RSC) today announced the members of the Systemwide Advisory Committee (SAC), who will provide input and suggestions to the RSC regarding the selection of a new president. The Regents’ Search Committee and the Systemwide Advisory Committee met on December 20, 2012 with the search consultants to begin discussing the process by which the search will move forward.

“The Systemwide Advisory Committee will ensure that representative voices from across our colleges and universities – those of students, faculty, staff, and union representatives – as well as input from the business and industry community are considered as we move forward with this critical undertaking,” said Lewis J. Robinson, Chairman of the Board of Regents, and of the Regents’ Search Committee. “While the recommendations and suggestions made to the Regents’ Search Committee by the Systemwide Advisory Committee are not binding or final, their involvement in this process will ensure that we cast a wide net in terms of soliciting input from the people who will be most impacted by the selection of a new president.”

The RSC hopes to recommend a candidate to Governor Dannel P. Malloy, the appointing authority, in the month of April, with the goal of having the candidate start at the Board of Regents by mid-to-late summer.

“There’s no doubt this is an aggressive timeline, particularly in an academic setting, but I strongly believe the students, faculty, staff and presidents at our 17 institutions deserve permanent leadership and guidance from a new president,” said Philip E. Austin, Interim President of the Board of Regents. “At the same time, I know the Regents’ Search Committee and the Systemwide Advisory Committee won’t allow a proposed timeline to negatively impact their goal of recommending an experienced and well-qualified president for this critical position. I have every confidence that, working with the advisory committee and the search consultants, the Regents will recommend an ideal candidate to Governor Malloy.”

The previously announced members of the Regents’ Search Committee include Lewis J. Robinson (Chairman), Richard Balducci, Naomi Cohen, Nick Donofrio, Matt Fleury, Michael Fraser, Merle Harris, René Lerer and Yvette Meléndez.
